LEXICON
Many of architecture and decoration terms come from French. They are used as they are in several languages by design professionals. We want to share with you the meaning of some of them and will enrich this section regularly. Your suggestions are welcome!
MARQUETRY
Cabinetmaking technique of assembling pieces of wood, of essence and different tones, juxtaposed on carpentry background in order to come up with drawings, various patterns. Marquetry can also be applied to rarer or less common materials such as straw, metal or stone.
BOISERIE
Boiserie – wooden wall panels, often decorated with carvings, paintings, gilding. They serve as an additional decoration of the interior. Typical of French castles and old town mansions. Today boiserie is also used in a contemporary interpretation with research on textures, patinas, colors … etc
