Visit the exhibition “The soul trembles” by Chiharu Shiota at the Grand Palais and Olga de Amaral at the Cartier Foundation with our guide.
The prominent Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota is famous for creating monumental installations employing red or black threads that form vast, web-like environments that suggest memory and the passage of time.
Olga de Amaral is a Colombian artist, exhibited for a limited time at the Cartier Foundation. Using textile art techniques, she works with gold leaf and paint to turn techniques of traditional weaving into mesmerizing abstract compositions that examine space, light and materiality.
You will be able to observe how both artists push the boundaries of textile as a form of art. Shiota’s threads spin to create invisible connections, and Amaral’s fibers become textured topographies. Though distinct in style, both create a profound engagement with materials, space and the emotional quality of textiles in contemporary art.
