GILDING AT VERSAILLES

Every visitor discovering Versailles for the first time marvels at the prime position of the gilding of the Palace. Gold imposes itself everywhere, on the lead of the roof, the gare of the courtyard, the wainscoting of the apartments, the cabinetmaker’s furniture, the bronze of the mantelpieces and the ébéniste furniture. This gilding, which was requested by Louis XIV, was never questioned by its successors, until Louis-Philippe.

In this book, a real reference work on all the techniques of the gilding profession, two experts in the field présent some of their expériences gained during their gond and loyal service at the restoration workshop of the Palace of Versailles.
