Victor Vasarely was a Hungarian-French artist, who is widely accepted as a “grandfather” and leader of the Optical art movement. What is also called Op art, consists of playing with a reduced number of shapes and colors to create methodical and scientific optical illusions.
His varied productions – paintings, multiples, advertisements, architectural projects – reflect this approach combining rationality and creation. The artist also illustrates the great social changes of the 1960s and 1970s by appropriating advertising and mass media, a resolutely modern approach that makes him a major figure in popular culture.
Album of the exhibition held in Paris at the Center Pompidou in 2019.
