The Avant-Scène gallery, at the forefront of design

Avant-Scène gallery is an essential place in the world of collectible design. Elisabeth Delacarte created it in reaction to the industrial production of contemporary furniture.

The 80s were dominated by cold design. Faced with a world of standardized industrial production, I had an immense need for poetry, fantasy and freedom.

The dozen artists-sculptors – Elizabeth Garouste, Franck Evennou, Hubert Le Gall… – draw pieces far away from minimalistic design.

Whatever their privileged areas of expression, the gallery’s designer artists evolve in the baroque, taken in the sense of the pearl baroque, those unique “imperfections” that make them so precious. The materials used are bronze, wrought iron, ceramic, wood and sometimes glass.

The works presented are outside of fashions and trends. Each work tells a story, like a functional sculpture that transforms everyday life into exceptional moments. Each is made by the best French craftsmen.

The limited edition adds to this rarity so much sought after by collectors passionate about contemporary creation. The works presented here are acclaimed by enlightened amateurs and the media, but also by international auction rooms confirming their ratings.

More than an address, the Avant-Scène gallery has become an institution for all those who share the love of the exceptional, fantasy, poetry and humor.

In 30 years, this name “Avant-Scène”, a nod to the proximity to the theater of Europe, place de l’Odéon, has established itself in the heart of a district devoted to the Arts.
